Not waiting for dawn
I leap into a new day.
Neurons all firing
my eyes open
seeing darkness
reaching out
for my phone
it displays 4:03 AM
wondering about dawn
I Google ‘sunrise today’
the answer: 6:57 AM
I lie for a few minutes
in the dark
contemplating more sleep
fleeting disappointment
is replaced
by possibilities
about the day ahead
feeling the fire
burning within
thinking
thinking
thinking
ideas, lists
more ideas
grip me
with my laptop bedmate
I refine the day’s plan
and start writing
it flows
my mojo intact
I'm relieved it flows
